Quadri piccanti e spettacoli indecentissimi: la ricezione dell’osceno come attrazione

After a brief survey of the first controversies caused by what was considered pornographic in the early Italian film magazines (1907-1918), this essay approaches pornographic films as examples of what Tom Gunning has famously labeled “cinema of attractions”. In order to reconsider the peculiar relationship they constructed with their spectators since their origin, the essay focuses on three common features of pornographic films which have been often misunderstood: the marginality of the narrative impulse, the look at the camera by actors and the use of extreme close up.

Dopo una breve panoramica delle controversie causate dalla pornografia sulle riviste di cinema italiane delle origini (tra il 1907 e il 1918), il saggio affronta il rapporto estetico che tale genere cinematografico istituisce con il suo spettatore, ricamando sul fortunato concetto di "cinema delle attrazioni" messo a punto da Tom Gunning per il cinema delle origini. Il saggio prende in considerazione tre aspetti in particolare, notori ma che appaiono essere stati oggetto di frequenti fraintendimenti nella letteratura: la marginalità del racconto, lo sguardo in macchina da parte degli attori e l'uso del dettaglio.
